Dr. Barchman knew she wanted to be a veterinarian since she was 14 years old, despite the fact that she grew up in a home without animals.  She has made up for that now and tends to have an average of 4-6 animals at all times…….along with her 2 daughters, not many dull moments around their house!
After graduating from veterinary school in Iowa, Dr. Barchman moved around the country – North Carolina where she did a rotating small animal internship, to Colorado to work at a 12 doctor small animal practice, then to Salt Lake City, UT for a year and then back to the Midwest (Iowa, then Kansas) to put down roots.  After all those different experiences, she started in KC doing relief work and found her home at State Line Animal Hospital in 2010.  A couple years after starting at State Line, one of her mentors, Dr. Cheri Jones, became certified in veterinary acupuncture and we were all amazed at the patient healing and increased quality of medicine.  Soon after she was certified, however, Dr. Jones became ill and passed away from cancer in 2013.  After watching her friend and mentor deal with cancer, Dr. Barchman started to realize the importance of holistic medicine – whole body healing/preventive medicine for herself, personally, and decided to continue in her mentor’s healing footsteps and continue her legacy. She was certified in veterinary acupuncture in 2014, from the Chi Institute in Florida, and continues to pursue more certifications in herbal medicine.  Her passion for holistic medicine for animals is rooted in integrative therapy which blends Eastern and Western medicine to its fullest potential.   The individuality and balancing nature of Chinese medicine takes the level of medicine to such a more personal energy connection with the animals and it just makes more sense to Dr. Barchman this way as she is always pursuing balance in her personal life as well.  This has led to her realization that her purpose here is to love on people by loving on their animals through high quality veterinary care.
